achievements of our youth in community services; learn what our youth have
been doing for the community through media arts; learn about Asian Media
Access programs; dinner, youth testimonies, video presentations and much

2. Healthy Resource Fair

The Minneapolis Urban League is hosting a Healthy Resource Fair.

Date & Time: Thursday, October 18, 2007, 10 am ­ 6 pm
Location: Minneapolis Urban League, 2100 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis

There will be health vendors who will speak throughout the day on various
health issues and there will also be a flu shot clinic from 2 pm ­ 4 pm.

3. Paj Naub Voice ­ Call for Submission

Paj Ntaub Voice, the premier Hmong literary arts journal, is calling for
submission.  The title for this issue of Paj Ntaub Voice is Headlines.  The
focus will be on issues surrounding the theme of Hmong and the media.  With
this call for submissions, they challenge you to explore this theme in a
variety of categories but not limited to: Crime and Violence, Assumptions
and Expectations, and Achievement and Accomplishment.

The Call for Submissions is open to all writers.  Hmong writers may write
about any themes or issues (Hmong or non-Hmong related).  Non-Hmong writers
MUST write about themes or issues that are directly related to the Hmong
community.  Submissions in English or Hmong are accepted.  Original,
previously unpublished works only.  They reserve the right to request
revisions and/or edit your submission before publication.  All artists whose
work is published will receive a complimentary copy.  In addition, artists
may have the opportunity to read or exhibit their work at a public reception
& reading.  Visual and literary artists retain all rights to their work.

Please submit work in the following categories:
- Poetry & Kwv Txhiaj
- Essays & Fiction: 2,500 words max
- Commentary & Interviews: 2,500 words max
- Plays/Performances: 2,500 words max
- Black & White Photography & other visual art: Do NOT send originals.
Submit photographs of artwork by email. (Preferred format: 4-color 8.5x 5.5
scanned at 300 DPI saved as a TIF or a JPG.)

Submission Requirements:
1. A biographical statement of 3-5 sentences MUST accompany your submission.
2. Email submissions are preferred.  Please send to pajntaubvoice@yahoo.com
with your submission attached as a Word document.  If your submission must

4. Asian Pacific American Conference

The Asian Pacific American Conference will focus on "Health & Wellness:
Mind, Body, and Spirit".

Dates: Oct 25 ­27, 2007
Location: Mankato State University, Mankato (CSU Ballroom)

The primary goals of the conference are to enhance networking and leadership
skills for people of all backgrounds to learn, share, as well as to embrace
and appreciate Asian history and culture.  It will bring together a diverse
array of viewpoints and experiences to discuss the issues that affect the
Asian Pacific American community on a local, national, and global level.  It
will consist of keynote lectures, workshops, panels, entertainment, and

5. Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network Events

- Know Your Rights Training and Volunteer Action
Date & Time: Saturday, October 27, 10 am - 2:00 pm
In response to the increasing raids and deportations that terrorize families
they are planning a day of training and action to help immigrant communities
know their rights.

- MIFN Open House!
Date & Time: Tuesday, October 30, 5 pm ­ 8 pm
Meet their staff, get to know their work areas, and meet their volunteers
and interns.  At 6pm they will be doing a presentation about their past,
current and future work.

Understanding Hmong Youth

Date & Time: Wednesday, November 7, 4 - 6 p.m.
Location: Champlin Park High School, IMC room (library)

Dr. Zha Blong Xiong, University of Minnesota professor of Sociology and
Family Studies, discusses current Hmong youth issues and shares his latest
research findings and practical tips for positive interaction with Hmong
teens.

Sponsored by the Library Foundation of Hennepin County in collaboration with
the Friends of the Champlin Library, Jackson Middle School, Champlin Park
High School, and the Brookdale Library International Teen Club.

Western Impression: A Chinese Performing Arts Concert

8. Gao Hong et al at U of M Concert

The Institute for Advanced Study, the US China People's Friendship
Committee, the China Center, the Consortium for the Study of the Asias, and
the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of
Minnesota are pleased to present a concert featuring the pipa artist Gao
Hong, Robert Jamieson, Pearl Bergad, Lei Li and other musicians.  The
concert is free and open to the public.
