Roundtable Discussion: Wealth Creation in Communities of Color

"For every dollar owned by the average white family in the United =20
States, the average family of color has less than a dime," according =20
to The Color of Wealth, co-written by University of Minnesota =20
professor Dr. Rose Brewer.  One consequence of the structural =20
disparities in assets and wealth in communities of color includes =20
fewer resources passed between generations, creating ongoing =20
disparities in home ownership and access to transportation options, =20
higher education, income-generation, open space, and a range of =20
society's goods and services.

What caused and perpetuates these racial disparities in wealth, and =20
what policies will rectify the situation?  What local organizing =20
efforts are working to create equity?  Sherrie Pugh of the Northside =20
Residents Redevelopment Council, Art Weddington of the Selby Area =20
Community
Development Corporation, and Hussein Samatar of the African =20
Development Center will kick off the roundtable and lead this open =20

reach, connect, and engage youth in preparing them to learn, lead, =20
and contribute in a multicultural world.  This symposium launches our =20=

3-year journey to reweave the ways we can help youth prepare for =20
global citizenship and leadership.

MACMH Training Services presents this 3-hour comprehensive child and =20
adolescent mental health training for educators. The training will =20

- Identify the impact a mental health problem has on a child's =20
ability to learn
- Carry out the next steps for a child that exhibits key warning signs
