Title: ³SENTENCED HOME²
Independent Lens
Date & Time: Sunday, May 20, 2007, 10 p.m.(check local listings)

The film follows three young Cambodian refugees with felony convictions from
their rash actions as teenagers: we see deportees separated from spouse,
families, children, parents: hear of their lack of recourse no hearings
under the current legal system: and follow their experienced in Cambodia
after release from a halfway house. We watch one young man awaiting years in
limbo for possible deportation spending time in community volunteering with
young Cambodian boys coaching them on a little league baseball team.

level to get funding restored for Asian Juvenile Crime Prevention. A third
level is to contact congressional legislators to reform immigration laws.

9. Roundtable Discussions: Grassroots Organizing

The Grassroots Organizing series explores how to create effective social
change movements. What strategies and tactics should we employ to engage
volunteers? How do we train new leaders? How do we build leadership in
communities of color and low-income communities?

All roundtables are on Wednesdays from Noon to 1:30 at the Alliance for
Metropolitan Stability office, Suite 200, 2525 East Franklin Avenue,
Minneapolis

Wednesday, June 6: Expanding Your Base - Effective grassroots organizing
requires getting large numbers of people to understand your organizationıs
issues and mobilize to take action. What infrastructure, including
organizational decision-making, and technology does an organization need to
engage large numbers of volunteers? What tactics work best in expanding
your base?

Wednesday, June 13: Building Volunteer Leadership - Effective grassroots
organizing requires building knowledgeable, competent, and committed
volunteer leaders. Social movements need leaders to understand the issues,
engage volunteers, raise money, and build organizational infrastructure.
What trainings, actions, and other opportunities need to be provided for
potential leaders?

Wednesday, June 20: Cross-cultural Organizing - Creating an equitable
society requires involving all people in public policy. How do we organize
across constituencies with different languages, income levels, and cultural
backgrounds? How do we build leadership in communities where people have
diverse work schedules, limited transportation, and are focused on meeting
their day-to-day needs?

For more details, please see their website
http://www.metrostability.org/news/article.php?id=75. Please RSVP to Unny
