reception on February 28, 2007 to present their 2006 Best Practices Award to
³What About Us?² along with six other Minnesota organizations.

"Wal-Mao: The Discipline of Corporate Culture and Studying Success at
Wal-Mart, China."

The talk examines the localization of Wal-Mart's corporate culture at its
stores in China. Specifically the ways it is in dialogue with both Chinese
discourses of "culture" and Maoist and post-Mao organizational culture.
David Davies is Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department and the
Director of the East Asian Studies program at Hamline University. His
recent publications include: "Visible Zhiqing: The Visual Culture of
Nostalgia Among China's Zhiqing Generation" in Re- envisioning the Chinese
Revolution.
Guobin Yang and Ching Kwan Lee, eds. Woodrow Wilson Center Press and
Stanford University Press, forthcoming and "Old Zhiqing Photos: Nostalgia
and the "Spirit" of the Cultural Revolution" in The China Review.

5. Twin Cities Fourth Arab Film Festival
The Twin Cities Fourth Arab Film Festival is March 29 - April 1 at the
Heights Theater in
Columbia Heights. The festival begins with a 6 p.m. opening reception on
Thursday March 29 followed by the showing of Heavenıs Doors, which will be
introduced by guest director Ali Selim (director of Sweet Land).
Throughout the festival, guest directors Saeed Taji Farouky, Annie Sundberg
and Nida Sinnokrot are expected to be present for post-screening discussion
on their films.

will present a reading of week 20 from Suzan-Lori Parksı 365 Days/365 Plays

Led by Producing Artistic Associate Randy Reyes, the public reading feature
Mu artists Eric Sharp. Eric Sumangil, Sun Mee Chomet and Mayano Ochi, to be
followed by an Asian American Theater Artist forum, focusing on individual
artists and companies within the Twin Cities.

8. Promoting and Defending the Human Right to Housing in Minnesota
PROMOTING AND DEFENDING THE HUMAN RIGHT TO HOUSING IN MINNESOTA

housing. The goal of this conference is to unite a diverse movement of

9. Photography Exhibition/Lecture on Japanese Internment Camp at Mankato
State University
A student's unusual angle on a class assignment led Minnesota State
University, Mankato Art Education faculty member Gina Wenger to create a
unique photographic documentary of Manzanar, a Japanese-American internment
camp.
Next month Wenger's photographs of Manzanar will be displayed in the
Centennial Student Union gallery from Friday, April 6, through Saturday,
April 14, with an opening reception for the exhibit at 4 p.m. April 6. And
on Tuesday, April 10, she will show and discuss her Manzanar photographs and
research during the Minnesota State Mankato 2007 Douglas R. Moore Faculty
Research Lecture.

11. Museum of Chinese in the Americas Call for Photos & Stories
Call for Photos & Stories
The Museum of Chinese in the Americas is collecting images and stories for
their new core exhibition honoring the adventurous and creative spirit of
Chinese in America. The exhibit will open in January 2008 in their new
facilities designed by architect Maya Lin, and they want YOU and many others
who share Chinese ancestry to be a part of it!
IS THERE A PHOTO that captures your strongest memory of you and/or your
family arriving in the United States?
IS THERE A STORY/ MEMORY that speaks of that moment, when you knew and felt
for the first time, that America was your new home?
Was it the sweet taste of your first hot dog? The feeling of snowflakes
touching your skin for the first time? Perhaps it was the sight of a new
city skyline? Or maybe your fatherıs description of drinking powdered milk
as the way he experienced America for the first time?
AND IF YOUıVE spent YOUR ENTIRE LIFE in the United States, what photos,
objects, and stories have been passed down over the years to become symbolic
of your familyıs immigration to America?
They particularly encourage you to submit your photos and stories if you
and/or your family arrived in the U.S. after 1965.
I. Deadline: April 23, 2007
II. PLEASE FILL OUT & ATTACH THE DONATION FORM with your submission.
III. PHOTOS may be sent via email as TIF or JPEG files. High resolution
images (300 dpi) are preferred. They are especially interested in photos
that provide a sense of geographical context, time, and place.
