Asian Media Access¹ Fundraiser Garden Party

Event features overview of Asian Media Access, Garden Tour, and light
refreshments (delicious home made baked goods, tea, and coffee). Proceeds
will benefit our Multi-Arts Complex located at 2418 Plymouth Avenue North in
Minneapolis. The Multi-Arts Complex is currently under renovation and upon
its completion, will house Asian Media Access¹ headquarter and other Asian

immigrants' experience together (Child, Teen, Professionals and Elderly).

3. Beijing Film Academy Delegation at U of M
The Department of Art at the University of Minnesota is hosting a delegation
from the Beijing Film Academy from July 29 to August 8. They will be
talking about their work on Friday, August 3 at 9:30 am in the Regis Art
Center. On Thursday, August 2 the Institute for Advanced Study will host a
reception for the artists from 5-7 p.m. The reception will also be held in

4. Mu Performing Arts Presents: Fundraising Golf Tournament
The First Annual Mu Open
Date & Time: Sunday, August 5, starting at 10 a.m.
Location: HIAWATHA GOLF CLUB, 4553 Longfellow Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55407
FEE: $60 (carts can be rented separately at clubhouse)
Come join players Rick "Double Bogey" Shiomi, Allen "Go for Broke" Malicsi
and a field of not-so-world-class players for a fun-filled day of golf. The
format of the tournament will be a 2 Person Scramble. So you can expect a
foray of birdies, eagles, pars and dare they say bogies. They will use a
handicapping system so that ALL levels of golfers can have fun and be
competitive. So you can bring a partner or come single and they'll hook you
up! In addition, they will have side games such as: Long Drive Competition,
Longest Putt Competition and Hole-in-One Contest. There will be trophies
for the tournament and prizes for the side games!!! After the tournament,
they will make a short trek to the Shiomi Memorial Clubhouse (Rick's house)
for a barbecue, tournament awards ceremony and distribution of side game

5. Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Events in the Twin Cities
The Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Committee offers these events to the
community to encourage reflection on the past and hope for the future
through action in the present. It calls for the total abolition of nuclear
weapons throughout the world as one measure of ensuring a just and lasting
peace.
I. Date: Sunday, August 5, 2007
Location: Lyndale Park Peace Garden, Roseway Rd. just north of Lake Harriet,
Minneapolis (directions)
4:30 p.m. - Women in Black procession along Pathway to Peace. Led by
WILPF-MN Arts Committee. (Procession starts at W. 40th St. & Bryant Ave. S.
and concludes at Spirit of Peace sculpture in Peace Garden.)
5:00 p.m. - Intergenerational Event at Spirit of Peace sculpture. The Sadako
Story by Key of See Storytellers with Renee Weeks-Wynne. Peace songs with
Marcia Sanoden. Origami paper crane folding. Recorder music by Arden
Consort.
6:00 p.m. - Japanese Tea Ceremony. Commemoration to coincide with time of
official ceremony in Hiroshima, Japan.
II. Date: Monday, August 6, 2007

7:30 a.m. - Hiroshima Commemoration: Ceremony of Cranes. Featured speaker:
U.S. Representative Keith Ellison. Music by Kathleen Olsen and Bret Hesla.
Reading of letter from Hiroshima mayor. Moment of silence at 8:15 a.m., the
time the bomb was dropped. Kairos Intergenerational Dance Theater. Origami
paper crane folding. Refreshments.
8:30 a.m. - Vigil in Peace Garden.

7:30 p.m. Peace Concert with Rabbi Sim Glaser and the Social Action Figures.
Songs of peace, love, fellowship and summer fun. Rabbi Sim Glaser on guitar
and vocals, Sara Glaser on vocals, Andy Morantz on guitar and vocals, Sita
Morantz on vocals, Jason Kapel on bass, and Sandy Donaldson on drums.

6. Midwest Buddhist Association - Children's Program
Midwest Buddhist Association - Children's Program!
Date & Time: Sunday, August 12, 2007, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Location: MBA Library,1245 Summit Court, Maplewood
The theme of this session will be the Double Seventh Holiday-"Chinese
Valentines Day."
Note: Children's Program sessions will return to the approximately twice
monthly schedule in September. An ongoing theme in this next year will be
an in-depth, but child-oriented study of the Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra-a
very short sutra that contains the essence of Buddhist wisdom.
Each session of the Children's Program usually includes the following types
of activities: Bowing at the altar, Lighting candles and incense, Singing
our welcome song, Reciting the name of Amitabha Buddha (Amitofo),
Meditation, Learning about a Buddhist ritual object or ritual, Learning
about and celebrating any significant Chinese or Buddhist holiday that falls
near this date, Listening to and enacting Chinese children's stories
(usually in English, but sometimes in both English and Chinese), Learning
and singing Chinese children's songs and Chinese folk songs, Learning about
Buddhist values, traditions and beliefs, Learning about Chinese cultural
traditions and values, Doing an art/craft project related to Buddhism or
Chinese culture, Meal blessing and vegetarian potluck lunch, Social time for
adults, Play time for kids.

7. Get Paid to Exercise - U of M Study Needs Women Ages 18 - 30
WOMEN IN STEADY EXERCISE RESEARCH (WISER)! The University of Minnesota is
inviting WOMEN 18-30 years old to be part of a research project. Volunteers
will be randomized to a control group or to an exercise group to do aerobic
exercise 5 times weekly for about 15 weeks, where FREE gym membership will
be provided for the exercise group and all participants will receive $300
upon completion of the study. Eligibility requirements: non-smoker,
sedentary (exercise 2 times per week or less), not currently pregnant,
breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant between now and the next 6
months, you are a moderate alcohol drinker (7 or fewer drinks/week), and you
have not used birth control pills in the past 3 months. If you are
interested in being part of the study or need more information, go to
