2. Girl Scout Alumnae Invited "Back to Camp" at Free July 28 Event

While bell-bottoms or bee-hives may have been the craze when you last made
Sımores, used your sit-upon, or sang Girl Scout songs around a camp fire,
the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley extends an invitation to all Girl
Scout alumnae, families, and friends to re-live and share their Girl
Scout experiences at the second annual "Back to Camp," a free alumnae event
at Camp Lakamaga, on Big Marine Lake in Marine, Minn., on Saturday, July 28
from 1 p.m. to dusk.

Council archivist, Sharon Reece will offer her sister Girl Scouts and
friends a glimpse into the past of more than 80 years of Camp Lakamaga
history, photos, and memorabilia through a fun and interactive camp display.

Alumnae and friends can also look forward to an afternoon of favorite Girl
Scout camp activities including: games, orienteering, tinikling sticks,
canoeing and waterfront activities, dinner, campfire songs, SWAPS making,
and Sımores.

3. Consider Hosting a Youth For Understanding Exchange Student

Take a Leap of Faith! HOST A YFU EXCHANGE STUDENT

Consider opening your heart and your home to a high school exchange student
for the next school year! Or may be youıd like to host shorter-term in a
welcome placement?

You would provide a place to live, three meals a day, encouragement,
guidance and love to your new exchange son/daughter. It is a typical family
living experience---NOT a tourist/travel opportunity. Families come in all
shapes and sizes, with and without children of all ages. The students come
with their own spending money, good health/dental insurance, and the
commitment to live according to the rules and values of your family and
Youth for Understanding (http:// www.yfu-usa.org). They can share a room
with a host sibling, but need their own bed.

They currently have two very wonderful Thai students, a boy and a girl, and
four Japanese students who are terrific kids. They all are very good to
excellent students, with artistic, athletic, and cultural talents. They
need to locate homes and schools for them before Aug 1st in order for them
to apply for their visas. They maintain contact with the students and host
families, supporting them during the process of their adjustment and their
experience. They guide and offer support and cultural/social opportunities.

Youth for Understanding is a 55 yr old nonprofit exchange organization,
which set the bar on exchange way back in 1951, to heal the wounds of WWII.
For detailed information on these kids and to see if hosting might be right
for you, call Betsy Kiefer at 612-298-9987 or 952-474-4460 , or email at
kiefer@yfu.org.
