1. The Northside Marketing Task Force to Host Town Hall Meetings

FYI to those of you who live or work on the northside of Minneapolis.
Please share this with others you know that may be interested.  This is an
effort of a cross neighborhood alliance of residents and staff.  The
Northside Marketing Task Force is holding four Town Hall meetings in July
for public input into the new North Minneapolis identity.

Saturday, July 14th, 10 AM at North Regional Library (1315 Lowry)
Thursday, July 19th, 6 PM at Harrison Community Center (503 Irving)
Thursday, July 26th, 7 PM at Webber Park (4400 Dupont)
Monday, July 30th, 7 PM at Minneapolis Urban League (2100 Plymouth)

2. Travelers Foundation to Host Reception for the Retirement of Mary Pickard

Mary Pickard, Vice President of Community Affairs and President of the
Travelers Foundation, has announced her retirement from Travelers, effective
July 20.  We are very sorry to see Mary go, but we wish her well in
retirement.

To celebrate three decades of community affairs work, the Foundation is
hosting a reception.

Date & Time: Tuesday, July 17, 4 pm ­ 7 pm
Location: Jackson Room at Travelers

They would like community leaders to join them in wishing Mary well in her
retirement.  If you can make it to this reception, please contact Shary
Kempainen at 651-310-7875 or at shkempai@travelers.com.  Shary will provide
information about the event, including directions and parking suggestions.

3. Celebrate Summer at Party In the Garden

Celebrate Summer at Party In the Garden: Picnic with art, music
award-winning childrenıs author

The Friends of the Wayzata Library invite all ages to "Picnic at Wayzata
Library: party in the garden," a free picnic with a program by children's
author/illustrator Nancy Carlson, an art project for all ages by the Walker
Art Center, music by Bassooner the Better, and fabulous views of Lake
Minnetonka in a gorgeous garden setting.

Date 7 Time: Wednesday, July 18, 4 pm - 6:30 pm
Location: Wayzata Library, 620 Rice St., City Hall.

Grab your sun hat and sandals and bring family and friends to a celebration
of the finest season in one of the Twin Cities' best locales.  Meet Nancy
Carlson, a lifelong Minnesota resident and author and/or illustrator of more
than 50 books for children.  Thousands of children and parents have enjoyed
her stories of Harriet, Loudmouth George, Louanne Pig, Arne, and other dogs,
rabbits, mice, frogs, and other animals who help children cope with
challenges, fears, anxieties, disabilities, and personal relationships.
According to Carlson's website (www.nancycarlson.com), many of her books are
based on her childhood experiences.

4. CAAPAM Invites You to a Tour of the Ultrafilatration Plant

CAAPAM (Chinese American & Professional Association in Minnesota) cordially
invites you and your families/friends to a tour of the Ultrafilatration
Plant at Columbia Heights.

Date: Saturday July 21, 2007
Group Assembly Time: 10:45 a.m. - 10:55 a.m.
Tour: start at 11:00 a.m. sharp
Location: 4500 Reservoir Blvd., Columbia Heights, MN 55421-3270

This event is free and open to the public.  However, advanced registration
is required.  For registration, please email the following information to
the program chair, Jack Tsai, at tsaij1@msn.com.

Information required for registration: Your name; number of adults, and
number of children to attend.

The group will be assembled at the plant's parking lots inside the entrance.
All adults needs to present a form of identification issued by government
(such as driver's license) to enter the plant entrance.  After the tour,
whoever interested can move on to the Great Moon Chinese Buffet to join the
group for a social lunch at their own cost.  The address of the restaurant
is 4029 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55421.

6. Free White House Conference on Faith-Based and Community Initiatives

White House Conference on Faith-Based and Community Initiatives will be here
in Minneapolis.  This conference may be helpful to you if you are interested
in learning about the many government funding opportunities available to
faith-based and community groups.  You'll also get the chance to network
with government officials and other nonprofits and ministries doing work
like yours.

Here's how the White House Office describes the conference: "This conference
is part of a series of regional conferences in partnership with states
across the country.  These events are designed to connect effective social
service organizations with resources that can strengthen and expand the
services they offer to the people they serve.

As in the past, this conference will provide an understanding of the
President's Faith-Based and Community Initiative, information about the
federal grants process and funding opportunities, and the basic legal
responsibilities that come with federal funding.  In addition, special
emphasis will be placed on opportunities for partnership at the state and
local level.  They will also offer practical information on the
grant-writing process, share successful practices from other organizations,
and facilitate opportunities to network with government officials."

7. Project Youth Connect

Project Youth Connect is a one stop shop youth centered event connecting
youth with services focusing on four main areas: Employment, Education,
Health Services, and Basic Needs (including shelter).

Date: August 13, 2007
Times: 12 pm ­ 5 pm Service Providers; 5 pm ­ 7 pm Community Meal
Location: St. Maryıs Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave. S.,
Minneapolis, MN 55408

Transportation for youth will be provided at specific pick up sites.  For
more information, contact Event Co-Coordinator Mary Revoy at 612.377.8800.
This is not a religious event; the church is the host site.
