1. Event Listing from Midwest Buddhist Association
Visitors and occasional participants are always welcome. This is a fun,
informal, yet serious, group with an emphasis on both Chinese Buddhism and
Chinese cultural roots.

The themes of this session will be the Laba Festival which is celebrated on
the 8th day of the 12th month of the Chinese lunar calendar (January 15,
2008) and activities related to Chinese New
Year.
MBA Chinese New Year Celebration!!!!!!! The MBA Chinese New Year
celebration will take place the evening of Saturday, February 2, 2008. They
will celebrate with a restaurant feast, the details of which will be
finalized and announced soon. The Year of the Rat will begin on February 7,
2008.

Celebrate and learn about the Lantern Festival (actual date is the 15th day
of the Chinese lunar year; February 21, 2008)

Learn about Taoism in honor of the Birthday of Lao Zi, the founder of
Taoism. The actual date of this holiday is the 15th day of the 2nd month of
the Chinese lunar calendar, corresponding to March 22, 2008.

Social/restaurant dinner to celebrate the Birthday of Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
The actual date of this holiday is the 19th day of the 2nd month of the
Chinese lunar calendar, corresponding to March 26, 2008.

Learn about and celebrate Qing Ming Festival, a festival to honor deceased
ancestors. The actual date of this holiday is April 4, 2008. The date is
not based on the lunar calendar and always falls on April 4, 5 or 6.
This schedule of regular sessions will be supplemented by additional events
and outings which are yet to be planned. Each session usually includes the
following types of activities:
- A short period of Buddhist rituals and practices, including lighting
candles and incense, bowing at the altar, reciting the name of Amitabha
Buddha (Amitofo), and meditation
- Celebrating Chinese and Buddhist holidays
- Chinese and Buddhist children's stories and legends
- Chinese children's and folk songs
- Learning about Buddhist values, traditions and beliefs
- Learning about Chinese cultural traditions and values
- An art project related to Chinese culture or Buddhism
- Vegetarian potluck lunch
- Social time for adults and play time for kids
Most members of the Midwest Buddhist Association are Chinese and the primary
focus of the MBA is Chinese Pure Land Buddhism. More information is

There are tons of Hmong radio programs on the air, but only one show is
provocative, probing and spoken in English!
Introducing CHAT Radio airing on KFAI-FM (Fresh Air Community Radio) on
Monday evenings at 8:30 p.m. You may also listen to CHAT Radio on
www.kfai.org (enter CHAT at the search prompt).
Talee Vang and Wameng Moua from Hmong Today bring news and commentary from
the Hmong world while Kathy Mouacheupao and Danny "Six-strings" Her spin a
wide spectrum of music from the Hmong music scene.
