1. Youth Summit by Catalyst
BeTheCatalyst.org is live!
The next big thing in youth tobacco control is well on its way! Catalyst,
the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota funded youth mobilization project
has launched it's website. http://www.bethecatalyst.org/. They used the
same technology as MySpace or Facebook and made a social networking site
where Catalyst members can make profiles, upload pictures, write stories,
and make friends with each other. The ability to socialize with each other
on the web will be able to further connect youth from across Minnesota and
let them see what each other is doing, and join in projects in their area.
The site is also packed with information, videos, and activist inspiration.
They're starting their summer recruitment!
And they're looking for youth in your area! Their kickoff summit is August
15-17 at the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota, and will be a 3
day cram session on how the tobacco industry works and how youth can get
involved to fight it. The summit is free of charge, all you have to do is
get there. Many of you have already gotten many youth in your area signed
up, and we thank you, but they've still got some work to do. If you know
youth personally that you think should come to the summit, please share this
with them and encourage them to sign up. Also if you know organizations in
your area that work with you, in a public health setting or not, please
share this opportunity with them. You can get the application from the
website. They're looking for 100 students total, and they're not there yet,
so they would love your help! They are now on a rolling admissions process.
Want to come to the summit?
If you are looking for youth to be involved in your program in your area and
would like to come to the summit and present they'd love to have you. Their
goal is to get kids plugged in to what's happening in their local area, and
have them get to know their local public health workers, so they'd love to
have you come and present on what you're doing. They are also looking for
chaperones to help look after the great group of kids they have coming, so
if you are interested please let them know!
Get to know them!
If you've got questions, concerns, comments, or just someone to chat with
they're here to help. If it's questions on how to get youth involved in
your area, how to get them plugged in to what you're doing or anything else
they'd love to help. Give them a shout, they're nice.
