These sessions will be focused on opportunities available to priority
population communities in Minnesota, namely, communities of color
(African/African American, Asian American Pacific Islander and Chicano
Latino); American Indian Nations; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender
persons; young adults (aged 18-24 years); blue collar workers; pregnant and
nursing women; and economically disadvantaged Minnesotans.  Along with a
presentation of funding mechanisms, funding priorities and the application
process, the meeting will enable prospective applicants to have their
questions answered directly by staff.

5. Public Lecture at U of M: Why Asian American Studies Matters

Sucheng Chan, one of the founding scholars of Asian American Studies, will
be visiting the University of Minnesota to give a public lecture titled,
"Why Asian American Studies Matters,"

Sucheng Chan, Professor Emeritus of Asian American Studies, UC Santa Barbara
University and community reception and book signing
Date & Time: Thursday, April 26, 2007, 5 pm ­ 7 pm; a reception will follow
Location: 120 Andersen Library, University of MN, West Bank of the U of M
campus, near the law school.

Prof. Chan is donating her formidable collection of Asian American
Studies-related books and research materials to the Immigration History
Research Center at the University of Minnesota. Prof. Chan is author or
editor of more than fourteen books, including Asian Americans, Hmong Means
Free, Quiet Odyssey: A Pioneer Korean Woman in America, Entry Denied:
Exclusion and the Chinese Community in America, and Survivors: Cambodian
Refugees in the United States.

6. The Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble Concert Announcement

The Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble will be holding their Spring Concert.

Date & Time: Sunday, May 6, 4 pm (about 75 minutes long, including
intermission)
Location: Jannet Wallace Concert Hall of the Macalester College
Admission: Free and open to the public

This year, they are celebrating their 20th anniversary!  Therefore, they
will be holding TWO concerts -- one in May, the other in October.  For this
Spring Concert, they have selected a few of the pieces that will be included
in the Fall concert, thus a ³Sampler Concert².  Mr. Ying Zhang has
especially composed ³Yo! Yo! MCME² to commemorate their long journey which
will be premiere at the May 6 concert.

Please come and join them to celebrate this very meaningful event.  If not
for you, the audience, the Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble could not
proudly exclaim ³they have been performing Chinese music in Minnesota for

Asians in Minnesota" mini-conference at U of M

You are invited to the "Creating Partnerships to Address the Mental Health
Needs of Southeast Asians in Minnesota" mini-conference at U of M.

Date & Time: Friday, May 11, 2007, 9 a.m. - 12p.m.
Location: Continuing Education and Conference Center at the University of
Minnesota (St. Paul Campus).

The focus of the conference is on "Creating Partnerships to Address the
Mental Health Needs of Southeast Asians in Minnesota."  The conference is
free, but advanced registration is required.  Three CEU credits will be
available to participants and a light breakfast and coffee will be served.
