1. 2006 Media Camp for Asian Pacific American Youth
Asian Media Access is hosting the 2006 Media Camp for Asian American Youth.
Dates: Oct. 19 22, 2006
Location: Mankato State University (Overnight at Mankato Oct. 20-21)
Application Deadline: October 13, 2006
Learn media, make friends and having fun! The 2006 Media Camp for Asian
American Youth is a fun-filled 4-day retreat. Through hands-on media
training, the Media Camp will provide students with a chance to explore
current issues in forms which can effectively reach a broad audience.
Students will also attend Asian Pacific American Conference at Mankato State
University filled with leadership training opportunities, and attend a
semi-formal opening night Youth Celebration Banquet at St. Paul Travelers to
celebrate the achievements of previous youth participants of Asian Media
Access¹ youth programs.

3. 5th Annual Hmong Resource Fair
You and your family are invited to the 5th Annual Hmong Resource Fair.
Date & Time: Saturday, October 21, 2006, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Location: Arlington Senior High School, 1495 Rice Street, St. Paul, MN 55117
This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Come and learn about health and
nutrition, education, employment, housing, legal, government services and
much more.
They will have:

4. Community Briefing on Hmong Poisonous Diets
Along with other seasoned individual, the MN Department of Health‹Refugee
Health, Achieve Language Academy, and the Hmong Archives they are hosting a
community briefing on "Hmong Poisonous Diets"; other topical discussion
items may include: nightshade and the sumac plants as well.
It would be ideal to share for those of us that work closely with newly
arrived refugee/immigrants; especially Asians and the Africans...we like to
forage and gather.

5. Minnesota State Arts Board Extended Grant Deadline
The Minnesota State Arts Board has extended the application deadline for the
Cultural Community Partnership grant program. The new deadline is 4:30 p.m.
on Wednesday, November 1, 2006.
Cultural Community Partnership grants are meant to enhance the artistic and
career development of artists of color. Funds may be used to support
collaborative projects between two individual artists of color, or between
an artist and an organization. To help promote the work of grantees, each
recipient will be expected to present some type of public event or
exhibition as part of his or her project. Grants range from $1,000 -
$5,000.
