1. Orientation for Applying and Purchasing a House from Twin Cities Habitat
for Humanity

The orientation is the first step in the Habitat application process.  At
the orientation applicants will learn about the next steps in the
application process as well as the criteria that Habitat uses to select
those families who purchase Habitat houses.  Please forward to families you
know that look for a home.

Date & Time: Monday, June 5, 2006, 6:30 pm ­ 8 pm
Location: Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 3400 Park Avenue Minneapolis,
MN 55407

This orientation will be offered in Oromo, Amharic, and English.

Directions: Take I-94 to the 25th/Riverside Avenue exit, in Minneapolis; Go
South on 25th Avenue which will turn into 26th Avenue South; Continue on
26th Avenue to Lake Street where 26th Avenue becomes Minnehaha Avenue; Cross
Lake Street and go one block on Minnehaha Avenue; Turn Left (east) onto 31st
Street; The church will be on your left in about two blocks; Please do not
park in the parking lot next to the church.

onto 26th Avenue North; The church is located at the corner of 26th Avenue
and Newton Avenue North.

2. A Presentation and Discussion on Assessing Youth Program Quality

The MN Youth Work Institute and Youth Community Connections are sponsoring a
meeting with the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation to encourage
youth programs, agencies and communities to learn about the YPQA tool to
measure youth program quality.  Participants will have a chance to meet
Charles Smith, from High/Scope Education and Research Foundation and
dialogue about how the YPQA could be useful for communities in Minnesota.
You will also learn more about how the Center for Youth Development will use
the tool with communities around the state in the coming year.

Key Session Goals:
- Explore how programs could incorporate YPQA into their environments.
- Discuss how to improve program quality in the field of out-of-school time
programs.

When: June 13, 1:00 - 4:00 PM

3. June 6 Webcast Features Leading Gang Specialists

On June 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. ET, the Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention and the Office of Community Oriented Policing
Services (COPS) will air the second of two Webcasts and satellite broadcasts
on Preventing Gangs in Our Communities.  The first aired May 23, 2006.
The 90-minute broadcast will feature an opening message from Attorney
General Alberto R. Gonzales, a panel discussion by gang specialists, and a
discussion of what law enforcement and communities are doing to share gang
prevention responsibilities.

Panelists will include:
- Scott Decker, Chair and Professor, Department of Criminal Justice and
Criminology, Arizona State University
- Errika Fearbry Jones, Director, Gang Free Schools Project, Pittsburgh
Board of Education
- Victor Gonzales, Director of Program Services for the Gang Violence
Reduction Team in the Mayor's Anti-Gang Office in Houston, TX
- Joe Mollner, Senior Director of Delinquency Prevention, Boys & Girls Clubs
of America.
