Centered in and around ancient China, both Chinese and English songs/

Black Turtle were mandated by the God of Heaven (Tien Dei) to be in charge

steers the Sun Chariot. Everything has changed.......

2. Community Gathering API Community Health Center Planning Collaborative
The Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Community Health Center Planning
Collaborative, a community led effort to develop Minnesota's first API
Community Health Center, will host its 2nd Community Gathering on Thursday,
Dec. 14 2006 at 5:00 pm. The event will take place at the Harrison
Neighborhood Association, which is located at 503 Irving Ave. N., Suite 100,
Mpls, MN 55405. The goal of the API Community Health Center will be to
provide community responsive, financially affordable, culturally and
linguistically appropriate primary health care services to Minnesota's
ever-growing API community.
Minnesota is nationally recognized as one of the healthiest states in the
nation. However, it also ranks alarmingly high in health and health care
disparities for APIs. These disparities are primarily due to the lack of
access to regular health care, limited preventive services, and high disease
incidences that go undetected and untreated. (Source: SHAPE 2002).
"The establishment of an API community health center is a critical part of
the solution to addressing health care disparities," states Emily Wang,
chair of the Minnesota Asian/American Health Coalition. "So many within our
multi-ethnic community fall between the cracks of our health care system and
go without care."
The API Community Health Center Planning Collaborative is a partnership
among community organizations and agencies at the city, county, state and
national levels. The Collaborative was awarded a $10,000 planning grant from
the "Healthy Together: Creating Community with New Americans" initiative of
BlueCross/BlueShield of Minnesota Foundation. In addition, they have also
received funding and support from the Association of Asian Pacific Community
Health Organizations (AAPCHO), a national association representing community
health organizations dedicated to promoting advocacy, collaboration and
leadership that improves the health status and access of Asian Americans,
Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders within the United States, its
territories and freely associated states, primarily through their member
community health centers. The invaluable support has helped to foster
community exchanges related to health access between the underserved and
heterogeneous API community and the "receiving" community in the Twin Cities
metropolitan area. This is an unprecedented unified effort to establish MN's
first API culturally responsive community health center.
The Collaborative will present preliminary results from the health care
access assessment survey and API health provider supply and demand
distribution report at the Dec. 14th Community Gathering. Community members
and other interested parties are invited to attend.
(The partnership includes members from: Asian and Pacific Islander American
Health Forum, Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations,
CAPI, Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans, Hennepin County-Office of
Multicultural Service, Hmong American Partnership, Hmong Health Care
Professional Coalition, Korean Service Center, Lao Assistance Center,
Minneapolis Department of Health & Family Support, Minnesota Asian/American
Health Coalition, Minnesota Association of Community Health Centers,
Minnesota Chinese Health Center, Minnesota Department of Health-Office of
Minority and Multicultural Health, Minnesota Department of Health-Office of
Rural Health and Primary Care, SEWA: Asian Indian-Family Wellness, Southeast
Asian Community Council, Southeast Asian Ministry, St. Paul-Ramsey County
Department of Public Health, United Cambodian Association of Minnesota, and
Vietnamese Social Services of Minnesota. Their support and partnership has
made this effort possible.)
