2. Twin Cities 2nd Annual Asian American Theater Forum

The Next Big Bang and AA Theater Festival!

This year's focus will be on the first ever AA National Theater Conference,
THE NEXT BIG BANG, with panelists who participated in the historic event.
They will also discuss the upcoming first ever AA National Theater Festival
in NYC in the summer of 2007.

There are many exciting things happening in the AA Theater Community, both
locally and nationally, and they want to share those ideas and resources
with you.  They hope you take advantage of this exciting opportunity.

3. Discussion ­ Understanding Hmong Youth

Dr. Zha Blong Xiong, University of Minnesota professor of Sociology and
Family Studies, discusses current Hmong youth issues and shares his latest
research findings and practical tips on positive interaction with Hmong
teens.  Sponsored by the Library Foundation of Hennepin County in
collaboration with the Hennepin County Office of Multi-Cultural Services,
Brookdale Library International Teen Club and Park Center High School.

4. Filipino Dances in Cultural Show

The Cultural Society of Filipino-Americans is presenting the seventh of the
PAMANA(Heritage) series.

Date: September 9, 2006
Time: 2 shows on that same day - matinee at 2 PM & evening at 7 PM
Location: Anne Simley Theater, Drew Fine Arts Center, Hamline University,
1530 Taylor Avenue W., St. Paul.

PAMANA VII is the group¹s continuing community commitment to showcase
Filipino culture through a 2-hour stage performance featuring dances,
costumes, music, and settings.  The entertainment is catered to children,
teenagers, adults, and elderly like the age composition of the dancers.

The show is composed of 4 dance suites. "Canao" features ceremonies of
indigenous tribes in the northern, mountain region of Luzon, the biggest
island where Manila is.  "Jotas Y Bailes" portrays the Filipino ways during
the 400-year Spanish era.  "Sarimanok" covers the rituals of the seafaring
Muslim tribes in the southern island of Mindanao.  And, "Doon po sa Amin"
depicts the daily activities in the rural areas of the rest of the 7,100
islands.

Tickets are now selling at $12 for adult, & $8 for kids under 13 & seniors

6. Governor Tim Pawlenty¹s Minnesota Veterans Summit

Governor Tim Pawlenty¹s Minnesota Veterans Summit Addressing the Needs of
Returning Combat Veterans!
Date & Time: September 21, 2006, 7.30 a.m. ­ 4.30 p.m. (Summit), 4.30 ­ 7.30
p.m. (Veterans Fair)
Location: Minneapolis Convention Center

The Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans would like to work with you to get
the word out to the Hmong veterans so that they bring the concerns and
issues of the Hmong soldiers to this summit.  They will be working to get
the word out to other groups such as the Lao and Vietnamese.  They think
this is an important opportunity for the Hmong, Lao and Vietnamese to
participate in discussions and make policy makers aware of the needs of the
minority veterans.  It¹s a one day summit to those who shape state policy
and provide services to veterans and their families.

The council will work with the organizers so that they have a table at this
conference (over 30 exhibitors).  It will be a worthwhile goal to see that
the Hmong Veterans organizations are represented there.

10. The White House Internship Program

The White House Internship Program offers an excellent opportunity to serve
our
President and explore public service.  They are seeking exceptional
candidates to apply for this highly competitive program.  In addition to
typical office duties, interns attend weekly lectures, tours, and complete
an intern service project.

Interns may serve a term in the Fall, Spring or Summer.  Every candidate
must be a United States citizen, enrolled in a college or university, and at
least 18 years of age.

An application and additional information about the program can be found at

Strong applications exhibit sound academic credentials, a history of
community involvement and leadership, solid verbal/written communication
skills and a demonstrated interest in public service.
