1. Asian Media Access Presents - "A Dragon Odyssey" at the 2006 Fringe
Festival 

Asian Media Access once again presents - "A Dragon Odyssey" at the 2006
Fringe Festival.  Supported by Twin Cities Chinese Dance Center, this
Musical features songs, dances for whole family to enjoy.   In ancient time,
Green Dragon disobeyed God of Heaven's Order, was punished,
until.........

Performances will be held at the Red Eye Theater at 15, 14th Street West,
Minneapolis.

2. Performance by Southern Theater at the Fringe Festival

2006 FRINGE FESTIVAL at the acclaimed SOUTHERN THEATER!

They have worked hard to create an energetic, educational production that
embraces diversity!  Their heart-felt production African Roads, American
Streets is filled with powerful movements and features a strong mix of
theater, street and cultural performers all woven together in a delicate
dance that will unveil a true story through spoken word, hip hop, live
drumming, and African dance.

Show choreographed by Edna Stevens Talton, William Atchouelou, Christian
Adeti, Chandara Pen, Dancin' Dave, B-boy Sean, and youth performer, Joshua
Stevens---Special appearances by spoken word artist Desdamona and Truth
Maze, Graffiti done by Katrina K of Riot Crew, beat-boxer Carnage and many
more-----

Universal Dance Destiny will be at the Fringe performing "African Roads,
American Streets".

3. Dragon Boat Race at Red Wing

Traditional (over 10 years of history) Dragon Boat Race at Red Wing city is
coming this Saturday!  All are welcome.

Friendship Through Paddling----Dragon Boat Racing

Schedule:
8/4 (Friday) - welcome party (Red Wing, water front)
- 5:30pm: social hour
- 6:30pm: dinner
- 7:30pm: performance
- 8:30pm: camping

8/5 (Saturday) - Race day
- 8:00am: breakfast
- 8:30am: line up
- 9:00am: awaken dragon
- 9:10am: first boat loads
- 12:30pm: lunch
- mid afternoon: races continue. Iowa/Minnesota jug race
- 7:00pm: reception, awards
- 8:00pm: music, dance

Directions: Going south on 61 to Red Wing (It takes about 70 minutes from U
of M).  Turn right on Withers Harbor Drive.  Follow road to harbor area,
looking for their team around dock C.  If you reach entrance to Bay Point
Park, you have gone about 100 meters too far.  Please note, the practice
will be held at the Central Park in Roseville (Lexington and county road C).

4. Fringe Masquerade and Burlesque Ball

It's the Fringe Opening Night Party!  Everyone is invited to the Fringe
Masquerade and Burlesque Ball.

Date & Time: Friday August 4 starting at 10pm
Location: Varsity Theater

Dress up or dress down in your best Masquerade or Burlesque attire and
you'll need to wear your Fringe button.  City Pages will be awarding prizes
for Most Masquerade and Best Burlesque to the most outrageously dressed
Fringers of the evening.  And be there at 11pm for the Improv Challenge
hosted by The Scrimshaw Brothers. What a night!  See you there.

Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Community Forum!

Hennepin Counity is home to the largest Asian American and Pacific Islanders
population in Minnesota.  As valued members of the community, your insight
and opinions are important to them.  Please join them for this forum and
tell them how they can all work to make Minnesota a better place for you and
your children.

6. Training by Youth Views Institute, New York
 
 The Youth Views Institute will bring together 20 young community leaders,
ages 16-20, from New York City and around the country to offer training in
how to integrate independent documentaries with their community work, and
create a rare chance to network with other young people working in their
communities. The Youth Views Institute is based on the premise of
non-fiction storytelling as a tool for creating positive social change. It
focuses on emerging and young leaders who are involved with community
issues, and will feature workshops on critical thinking and media literacy
skills pertaining to independent and commercial media; diversity training;
and community organizing, including crafting a vision for working with
media, outreach methods and event planning and promotion. Presenters will
include independent filmmakers, community organizers, P.O.V. staff and
members of the Youth Views Advisory Board. This year¹s Institute will be
held at Project Reach in New York City's Chinatown.  Deadline to apply
September 1st, 2006 5pm Eastern Standard Time.  Applications, a fact sheet
